A photograph's apparent size is directly related to the viewing distance.  In a gallery or a home, a small image asks for a viewer's commitment to approach it.  Perhaps like the commitment it takes to walk up to a stranger to start a conversation. Up close, distractions are reduced.  The print feels precious.
